The Nottingham Hoods Basketball Club will have a tough weekend as they face a home double header with Essex Rebels and Oaklands Wolves.
Both Essex and Oaklands are languishing at the bottom of the table, but that means little in a talented NBL division 1 this season.
Essex are coming off a 1 point lose to top of the league Worthing Thunder, and we rightly feel able to take on the best the league has to offer after a gritty and competitive performance at home. Their trio of tough guards, Ben & Rory Winter and Captain Tom Childs will no doubt be ready to play, their aggressive down hill style and 3 point shooting will need to be countered for Hoods to get the win. New signing Lee Hodges impressed last week with 18 against Worthing, and the big man will want to continue his play going up against one of the leagues best inside players in Morakinyo Williams. Coach Ross Norfolk has his side playing fast paced aggressive basketball and Nottingham will have to slow them down in order to take a win at home.
Oaklands commitment to giving their young academy players has left them somewhat behind the pack this year, but they’ve still taken a win home prior to Christmas. They are coming off a bad lose to high flying Hemel Storm, and Head Coach Lee Ryan will no doubt want to put in a good showing. Recent signings in Tola Okiki and Jonathan James will be a key part to Oaklands plan, both tough guards with scoring and passing ability. Youngster Kane Daley will look to continue his solid play for the club, while veteran forward Jordan Jackson will need to utilise his inside outside game for the young side.
Nottingham are looking for big performances from all quarters after two weeks of disruption due to travel issues and illness. Coach Stanley said despite their issues the team would be ready for the challenge:
“We’ve had some issues the last two weeks, but the guys are working through and focusing on the tasks ahead in what we know is a big month for us. Victor Olarerin is due for a break out game soon and this could be that weekend for him. I think we could see Moyo Adekeye and Jacob Cirtautas step up and contribute this weekend also, they’re young talents with a lot of upside and we’re excited to have them at the program.”
