Hoods notch up 10,000th point

The McDonald’s Nottingham Hoods recorded another milestone in this record breaking season as Alvarro Urbistondo scored the team’s 10,000th point.

It has taken 6 seasons, 145 games and one National Championship to hit this milestone, and Spanish guard Alvarro Urbistondo brought the travelling Merry Men to their feet with the first basket of the game as the Hoods recorded a crucial away win against title rivals Newcastle-under-Lyme Knight, winning 51-71.

Club Captain, Bruce Lauder, commented, “It has been an incredible 6 years since the Hoods was started in 2009. Scoring 10,000 points as a team in a time when other teams come and go with such regularity is a huge achievement. Lee English’s goal was to set up a successful basketball club and not just a senior men’s team. He wanted to build a sustainable club to put Nottingham back on the men’s basketball map and he has done that. Not only do we have a National Championship, but we have a successful ladies team, several junior teams and are actively involved in community projects as well as school coaching and of course our University partnership with Nottingham Trent. More importantly we are now seeing some Juniors who were with the club back in 2009 now playing for one of the senior men’s teams, which is exactly what we are about.

I couldn’t be prouder of the team, the club and all the volunteers that have helped us reach this impressive milestone and I look forward to many more.”
