Former BBL big Morakinyo Williams joins Hoods

The Nottingham Hoods are delighted to secure the services of ex-BBL big man Morakinyo Williams, signing from Leicester Warriors.

The 7’0 former GB u20 player has an incredible basketball CV, starting at Bishop Ireton High School in Virgina, before stints in NCAA Div 1 teams Kentucky, Duquesne and The Citadel. In 2011 Mo turned pro joining Inter Bratislava in the Czech Republic 1st Division.

Two BBL seasons followed, with Mersey Tigers and Manchester Giants where he teamed up with Hoods legend David “Tintin” Watts but there were further opportunities in France, Malta and Norway before a return to the BBL in 2017 with Leeds Force and then Surrey Scorchers in 2018.

Most recently, Mo spent last season with Leicester Warriors where he averaged an impressive 25.3ppg, 10.2rpg 1.3apg and 1.4bpg

Morakinyo had this to say of his move across the Midlands, “I’m excited to be joining the Hoods organisation. After seeing what Hoods were building and their desire to be a top team in the NBL, I saw it would be a good fit for me. I have high expectations both personally and for us as a team and I can’t wait for the competition to begin!”

Head Coach Ben Stanley added, “We were really keen to bring in Mo after last season, he’s a force down low and brings more international experience to the squad and shoots the ball well for a player of his size. We’re sure his experience and expertise will be big for us this year.”
