New Season Starts this Weekend

After what seems like an eternity, the new league season starts this Saturday at 6.30pm at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena, Greenwood Road, Bakersfield. NG3 7EB.

A dissapointing end to the 2012/13 season saw the Hoods slip from 2nd in the table to just missing out on the play-offs, so they will be looking to come out all guns blazing as they take to the court for the first time this year against Stockport Falcons. Whilst the head-to-head is 5-1 in favour of the Hoods, the Falcons have always proved a troublesome opponent, they have recruited heavilly over the summer with the addition of some GB u-20 players and will prove a tough first test for the new look Hoods team. The full season fixtures can be downloaded directly to your computer or phone calendar by clicking this widget

Stockport have already played and lost one game this season, against the highly fancied Northants Thunder, who boast ex-Hoods star Leome Francis in their ranks.

The summer has seen a lot of changes with the club and their brand; most notably with the Hoods changing from green kits to a new black look as part of their partnership with Zoti Sports. Saturday will see the unveilling of the new kits, which will also include green shooting shirts and a white away kit in the coming weeks. Zoti Sports have developed a full range of replica and fan gear for all ages from babies to adults and are hosting a bespoke online store for the Hoods that is now open until 14th October for the first production run. The store will the re-open in November, so get your orders in now and show your support by clicking here.

Saturday will also see the formal announcement of the new Title Club Partners, McDonald’s. In an exciting move for the club, McDonald’s have agreed on a 3-year partnership of the entire Hoods franchise – more details of which will be released on Monday.

Last season’s men’s team captain, Bruce Lauder, has become Club Captain after retiring from participating in the sport to spend more time with his family. In his new role, Bruce has already secured the McDonald’s and Zoti Sports partnerships, as well as designing the new kit and website.

The Hoods are, therefore, pleased to announce Apostolos Apostolidis – “Toli” will be captaining the senior men’s team in their bid for glory this season. GM Lee English commented, “Toli has been with the Hoods for the past two seasons as the starting point-guard and has always been fully comitted to the club as a whole and not just the men’s team. He will make a very good captain with his experience and knowledge of the game as well as the respect he has from the other players. I want to wish him well in what should be a very exciting year for the club.”

The Hoods have also expanded their social media outputs, so keep checking the website and the links below to keep up to date with all the action.
